Report of the Contemporary Visual Arts and Craft Inquiry

Details:
The Federal Government has released the Report of the Contemporary Visual Arts and Crafts Inquiry; the Myer Report. The Report was launched on Friday September 6th and it has made some good recommendations that relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, particularly copyright and intellectual property.

The Report recommends that the Commonwealth Government take action in the following areas:
- Introduction of a resale royalty system in Australia.
- To extend moral rights to Indigenous groups.
- the misappropriation of cultural imagery and iconography.
- Importation of works purporting to be of Indigenous origin
- Exportation of indigenous Art under the cultural heritage provisions.
- commencing consultations in relation to a national copyright education campaign
